I received a Bachelor of Arts from Baylor University, a Master's degree from Western Seminary in Portland, Oregon and my Doctorate from George Fox University. I am also the co-author (with Ben Young) of several best-selling relationship books as well as my most recent book titled, Out of Control, Finding Peace for the Physically Exhausted and Spiritually Strung-out.
I have been married 30 years and have 4 children which certainly informs much of my treatment focus. My training and experience includes working with adolescents and adults in several treatment settings (inpatient psychiatric clinics and outpatient practice). Drawing from spiritual truths, life experiences, and various psychological orientations, my treatment approach is multifaceted and interpersonal. I believe counseling should be a collaborative process between you and me and as such, a good therapeutic relationship is essential to our success. As a therapist I will help you establish physical, emotional, or spiritual healing through the integration of the truths of scripture with some of the most therapeutic insights and practices from psychology.
Most importantly, I want you to know that I am always humbled and honored to have the chance to work along side fellow travelers on this journey of life. Should you decide to work with me, regardless of your presenting problems, I am committed to the following:
- Providing an open, straight-forward approach
- Checking in with you regularly regarding our progress
- Helping you accomplish your goals and objectives within a reasonable time frame
